Young Chef competition at Rotary Club of Stamford

WO Owen from Contract Monitoring Squadron at RAF Cranwell was recently invited to judge the Rotary Club of Stamford, young chef competition at Stamford High School alongside FS Hollingsworth from RAF Wittering.

WO Owen has been an RAF Chef for 35 years which has provided him with a comprehensive range of culinary skills and knowledge.  He is also a Lead Judge and the Skills Theatre Manager at the annual Salon Culinaire International Culinary Competition, where he mentors young chefs.

At the Competition, each student had to prepare cook and present a two-course healthy meal (main course and dessert) suitable for two people, as economically as possible. Having 30 minutes to arrive and unpack ingredients with a further 1hour 30 minutes to cook and present their dishes.  Students were marked on their culinary skills, presentation, hygiene, healthy choices, planning, knife skills and costing of dishes.

The culinary skills used were extremely high, with only a few points between the winners.
