Mr Harry Cox is a partially sighted Royal Air Force veteran supported by Blind Veterans UK. After being presented with an award at the Blind Veterans UK awards ceremony earlier in the year by Corporal Chris Lake, 93 year old Mr Cox spoke about his time in the RAF when he served on XI (F) Squadron as an Engine Mechanic on the De Havilland Vampire Mk5 aircraft at RAF Wunstoft, near Hanover, Germany.
Keen to reconnect Harry with his beloved XI (F) Squadron, Cpl Lake contacted WO XI(F) Squadron, WO Trevor Quarterman, who was more than happy to host a visit for Mr Cox, Cpl Lake and Mr Kevin Atterbury (Mr Cox’s Blind Veterans UK Home Visitor).

Harry visited XI (F) Squadron and was given a guided tour by WO Trevor Quarterman.
WO Quarterman said:
“It was a privilege and honour to host Harry, hearing first hand his fascinating and amusing experiences of maintaining the Vampire aircraft, and an opportunity to show him the advances in aircraft technology since the early 1950s, and assure him the same esprit de corps still exists on XI(F) Sqn.”
