Typhoon Engineer is targeting the Winter Olympics 2022 in Beijing

A Royal Air Force Coningsby airman is targeting the Winter Olympics 2022 in Beijing, after successfully competing in the Luge event at the British Championships.

Senior Aircraftman (Technician) Luke Farrar, 22 years old from Doncaster, was introduced to Luge by a colleague about 3 years ago. Since then he has won the Inter-Services Championships, finished second in the British Championships, and has just become the newest member of the British team.

Luge is described as the fastest sport on ice. Luke says,

” On some tracks you can go from standstill to 60 KM/H in ten seconds. You don’t have time to be scared; you just focus on getting down the track as quickly as you can.”

Luke successfully manages to combine his role as an aircraft technician working on Typhoon aircraft on 3 Squadron with his Olympic ambitions.

“The experience of doing this is amazing. The opportunities to do sport in the Air Force are phenomenal. I am extremely grateful to the support I receive from the RAF, not many employers would allow you the time off for training and competing, then return to normal daily duties.”
