RAF Cosford Personnel Carry Veteran Couple on their Final Journey

Royal Air Force personnel from Royal Air Force Cosford took part in a funeral service today at Telford Crematorium. The service was for RAF veteran, Victor Barnett and his wife and Womens' Auxiliary Air Force veteran (WAAF), Edna.

Victor served in the RAF between 1937 and 1950 as a radar engineer; he served on 617 Sqn at the time of the Dambusters Raid. Edna served in the WAAF between 1944 and 1950 and worked in air traffic control. They were married for 68 years and died 10 days apart over Christmas. They had no children or known surviving relatives so their RAF family stepped in to ensure that they were given an appropriate send off on their final journey together.

A bugler from the The Royal Air Force Central Band sounded the last post and a flypast by a Juno helicopter was provided by RAF Shawbury. Following a successful social media campaign over 300 people from across the UK attended the funeral.
