Congratulations to Central Flying School (CFS) for their recent success in the 2024 RAF ASTRA Awards. The ASTRA awards celebrate innovation, challenge and improvement across the RAF.
CFS Development and Delivery Wg, alongside the CFS helicopter instructor training squadron (CFS(H)) at RAF Shawbury were recipients of the Astra Innovation Award for Project Immersive Instructor Training. The project introduces immersive 360-degree video courseware delivered through VR headsets, to significantly enhance the Qualified Helicopter Instructor and Qualified Helicopter Crewman Instructor training.
The technology is now being used by trainee instructors at CFS(H) who say it brings much more flexibility and realism to ground training.
