Congratulations to the RAF Cranwell Team who won the RAF Cross Country Championships at RAF Halton last week. The event saw athletes from Units across the UK compete for the prestigious titles of RAF Champion across the U23, Senior’s, Vet and Super Vet categories. There was also a highly competitive team competition, with the top 4 athletes from each station scoring, a title that RAF Cranwell had not won since 1970.
The conditions were pleasant throughout the race with the sun shining over the 10km course, which led athletes along the sports pitches and wooded areas surrounding Halton House. RAF Cranwell took a clean sweep of titles in the men’s race. First across the line in the male race and RAF Champion was Cpl A Baker, closely followed by Cpl C Pacey (3rd), Sqn Ldr T Bailey (6th) (winning the V40 masters title) and Cpl A Lowe (7th) (winning the U23 title). RAF Cranwell took a landslide victory with a combined score of just 17. There were also great runs for Fg Off S Sims (10th) and Sgt A Roberts (18th) who provided great depth to the Cranwell team.
Five Cranwell athletes have been selected for the Inter Service XC competition, again at Halton on 12 Feb 25 and they are hoping to come home with more silverware.
