Nine airmen assisted Middletown Grange Care Home on the 6th June in building a Winnie the Pooh themed scarecrow.  RAF Halton personnel were invited to come along as they have previously demonstrated their dedication to helping the care home occupants.

The task helped personnel develop relationships with the community and improve their team-building skills.  Senior Aircraftman (SAC) Vettraino attended the event and said: “Despite the rain, everyone fought on to produce two successful scarecrow displays and a great day was had by all.”

The scarecrow building competition is an annual event Hailey village holds with the theme changing each year.  This year the theme was Winnie the Pooh and the airmen from RAF Halton’s Personnel Management Squadron (PMS) put a twist on it by dressing their scarecrow in service uniform.

SAC Vettraino also said: “After some tough competition from the rest of the village, we failed to receive the most votes and lost to the Ghost Busters display.  Despite this, the day was not wasted as the residents and PMS learnt skills in scarecrow making and had a great day of laughter, tea and cake.”
