RAF HALTON HOST NATIONAL MEDIA MAY 2023

On 4 May 2023, RAF Halton hosted a collection of national and regional media outlets, allowing them to capture content of the parade rehearsals taking place for Their Majesties The King and Queen Consorts’ Coronations on 6 May 2023.

Approximately 30 journalists were welcomed on site and granted exclusive access to the Henderson Parade Square at RAF Halton. They had the opportunity to capture behind the scenes footage of Drill and Ceremonial parade practice involving 650 Service Personnel.

Troops recreated the route planned for Coronation Day, including marching along the Pal Mal, past Westminster Abbey and into Buckingham Palace Gardens where they poignantly removed their headdress and gave three cheers for HM The King.

Outlets had the opportunity to conduct camera interviews with parade participants including Parade Commanders, Colour Bearers and RAF Musicians. Personnel from 16 Royal Air Force Stations have been training at Halton for 10 straight days, including daylight and overnight practice.

Journalists were privy to exclusive details of the Coronation, including the formation of personnel as they march through London. They got a first look at the new Cap badges specifically designed for HM the King’s Coronation, and hand sewn by the only Tailor at RAF Halton to each, and every headdress worn by those marching.
