RECRUIT TRAINING SQUADRON STAFF RUN FOR BENEVOLENT FUND.

Six instructors from Recruit Training Squadron (RTS), Flight Lieutenants Beddow and Furlong, Sergeants Harrison and Perkes and Corporals Bennett and Williams have been running throughout the year to raise money and awareness for the RAF Benevolent Fund in recognition of all the help and support they provide to RAF personnel and their families.

The dedicated RTS team decided to run 2020 miles in pairs throughout 2020, that’s 1010 miles each this year! On average that means they would each have to run 2.7 miles a day every day for 365 days.

Throughout the year, the team have battled with working full time during a global pandemic, worn through at least 8 pairs of trainers between them, spent hours under massage guns and foam rollers, have run through storms (literally!) as well as having to deal with injuries, health scares and postings. Needless to say there have been a few tears, tantrums along the way!

Sgt Sarah Perkes said: “We have pushed ourselves and each other during this challenge and it is now all coming to an end. With just over 6 weeks left, we are now doing everything we can to get the last mileage in. The team has just short of 800 miles left, with one runner having completed their miles and another having to do theirs on their own at Honington.  We quickly realised that this was not going to be as easy as we thought despite booking various events ready to smash out the miles, but the year didn’t quite pan out how we thought. One runner decided that 1010 miles was too easy and pushed himself to run the full 2020 miles on his own, his reason was ‘because I’m nuts’ and we all agree! We have been updating our FaceBook and Instagram pages throughout the year and have had some amazing support, so thank you from all of us it is greatly appreciated."
