Deputy Commander Operations Visits Station

RAF Honington and the Force Protection Force welcomed the Deputy Commander Operations (DCom Ops) yesterday where he was briefed on training and operational capability whilst engaging with a number of personnel in the workplace.

Air Marshal G M Mayhew CBE MA RAF was met by Station Commander Group Captain Dutch Holland as he arrived by Augusta 109 VIP Helicopter. Per station tradition, the first stop was to lay a wreath and pay respects at the Station Memorial Garden.

A chance to see business at Honington and update DCom Ops on our ASTRA innovations within Force Protection capability and development, and Training modernisation with visits to the Force Protection Centre, Training Wing and Support Wing, whereby DCom Ops also had the opportunity to hand out Senior Aircraftman promotions.

The Station also had the chance to communicate Project BUCCANEER; the Station’s restructuring project that comprehensively reviews the way we work to improve efficiency.

It was most important for DCom Ops to directly liaise with personnel of all ranks during his visit, particularly following the restraints and demands endured by Covid-19. Through a number of forums both in person and virtually, DCom Ops prompted conversation and thanked all personnel for what they have achieved and how they have achieved it over the last 18 months.
