Leeming Personnel join Anzac Commemorations

Officially named Anzac Day in 1916, 25 April marks the anniversary of Australian and New Zealand soldiers forming part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in 1915. It remains a national day of commemoration for Australia and New Zealand victims of war and recognition of the role of their armed forces.

Personnel from RAF Leeming, including members of 90 Signals Unit, 607 (Co of Durham) Squadron and Yorkshire University Air Squadron, were honoured to be part of Harrogate's Anzac Day ceremony, hosted by The Commonwealth War Graves Commission at Stonefall Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery.

Wing Commander David Buckingham said: "It was an honour to represent Royal Air Force Leeming at the Anzac Day Ceremony – the final resting place of 97 Royal Australian Air Force and 23 Royal New Zealand Air Force servicemen. As we gathered with friends and allies to honour their sacrifice, we were reminded that peace and security are rarely achieved by accident."

Never Forgotten.
