Guardian of the Gate

Just before Christmas a new ‘Guardian of the Gate’ appeared at RAF Marham. The full size aluminium ‘Raging Bull’ was purchased by the Warrant Officers and Seniors Mess and was installed just inside the camp gates, where the Tornado had originally stood.

The bull was purchased from local company Home and Garden UK and weighs in at 180 kg. At night it is lit up with blue lights as a nod to the Blue Bull of Marham’s Station Crest. The crest was approved in 1957 and featured the Blue Bull with the word ‘Deter’. The bull was a symbol of deterrence and the blue from Blue Danube, the RAF’s first atomic bomb.
