The 80th anniversary of Operation Chastise

The 80th anniversary of Operation Chastise, the ‘Dambusters Raid’, has been marked by the current 617 Squadron in a small ceremony in the United States where the squadron is currently deployed on a training exercise.

Squadron personnel were joined by colleagues from the Royal Australian Air Force to pay respects to their forbears who on the night of 16-17 May 1943 conducted arguably the most innovative and daring mission in RAF history.

The gathering was addressed by Officer Commanding 617 Squadron, Wing Commander Stew Campbell, and readings given by squadron members before a minute’s silence was observed.
