RAF St Mawgan Embark on High Intensity Operational Training

On a sunny day in September, in a step to sharpen operational readiness and reinforce core military competencies, personnel based at RAF St Mawgan participated in an intense training exercise designed to elevate performance across the board.

Utilising parts of the RAF St Mawgan estate, this operationally focused initiative centred around delivering a rigorous program that blended classroom instruction with hands-on fieldcraft.  From tactical lectures and mission briefings to immersive field exercises, participants refreshed and refined essential skills including:

•           Combat First Aid

•           Weapon Handling

•           Basic Fieldcraft

•           Guard & Sentry Duties

But this wasn’t just about the basics.  The training aimed to push the boundaries of individual leadership, strengthen command capabilities and forge tighter team cohesion under pressure.

The exercise highlight for me was the realism of the combat first aid stand, the initial shock of the stand allowed for confidence in the fight or flight mode. The skills learnt have enhanced my confidence under pressure.

The exercise was designed to challenge and inspire, combining lectures, instructional periods and dynamic field scenarios that simulate real-world conditions.  With the support of specialist amputee actors, personnel experienced a level of realism rarely achievable in a training environment.

This high intensity training is about more than skill refreshment, it’s about staying razor-sharp, mission-ready and united.

The result - a force that’s not only proficient but primed for any operational challenge ahead.
