RAF Waddington Welcomes Charity Partners for Behind-the-Scenes Engagement Day

RAF Waddington opened its gates to key charity partners on Tuesday 23 June for a special Charity Engagement Day, offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at life on one of the RAF’s busiest operational stations.

With temperatures soaring above 30°C, representatives from the RAF Benevolent Fund, RAF Association, SSAFA, Royal British Legion, RAF Families Federation, Central Fund, Community Covenant and Lincolnshire Community Foundation spent the day learning more about the challenges, opportunities and support needs of Service personnel and their families.

“It was a pleasure to welcome so many of our key charity partners to RAF Waddington. These organisations play a vital role in supporting our people and their families. This visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the Station’s capabilities and, importantly, to strengthen the relationships that underpin the welfare support we rely on every day.”

Group Captain Leanne Warner
RAF Waddington Station Commander

The day commenced with an exclusive tour of 51 Squadron, 31 Squadron, 14 Squadron and the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team (RAFAT). Guests had the rare opportunity to meet operational personnel, gain first-hand insight into the demands of high-tempo operations, and get up close to RAF aircraft.

“At each of the squadrons, our guests were given a unique and personal insight into the challenges faced by our personnel and their families while engaged in demanding operational roles.”

Visitors also toured a variety of welfare and community facilities across the Station, including the church, nursery, gym and Ravens Club. These visits showcased the strong support already in place at RAF Waddington, while also highlighting areas where future investment could further enhance the wellbeing of the RAF community.

A working lunch provided an ideal setting for further discussion, with personnel from across the Station, including Multi-Role Space Squadron and the High-Readiness Operations Centre, sharing their experiences and challenges. Guests had the opportunity to reflect on their visit, ask questions, and explore how charities can continue to support those currently serving.

“It was a really wonderful opportunity to meet with serving personnel, learn about experiences at RAF Waddington and see the facilities available to people living both on and off site.”

Cavan
Lincolnshire Community Foundation

“I found the capability visits insightful and they provided a timely reminder that RAF Waddington’s personnel are living with transition to conflict daily.”

RAF Benevolent Fund

Events like this play a vital role in strengthening the partnerships that positively impact RAF personnel and their families, helping to ensure that support for the Waddington community remains robust now and into the future.
