The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust is making a positive difference to the lives of personnel at Royal Air Force Wittering, their families and the community.

The Cambridgeshire Station has received a series of significant grants made under the Trust’s Tackling Loneliness and Families in Stress programmes. These generous grants amount to over £160,000 and will fund projects both on the Station and in Wittering village.
Mark Davis MBE is the Community Development Officer for RAF Wittering. He said: “An RAF Station is a community, and it’s important that our people and their families feel like part of the whole. What the Armed Forces Covenant Trust has done is help the Station to help people who might be feeling lonely and want to get themselves out there again.”
The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust supports the Armed Forces Covenant by delivering funding programmes that create real change to Armed Forces communities across the UK. The Tackling Loneliness programme has provided grants of over £70,000 for various projects at RAF Wittering.

Rain certainly did nothing to dampen the occasion as RAF Wittering Station Commander, Wing Commander Jez Case, met with Mark Davis and Armed Forces Covenant Officer for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Thomas Kelly. First up was the 20 benches and parasols donated by the Trust to give Whole Force personnel a place to sit outside and take in the fresh air.

The Trust has also funded the licence for the Station Cinema. Run exclusively by service and civilian volunteers, the Cinema has become an important part of life at RAF Wittering.

The Families in Stress grant of £86,622 over two years was given to the Families’ Centre in Wittering Village. The Wittering Families’ Centre is located near to the school and offers help, support and advice to families and parents with young children.

Thomas Kelly said; “The Trust is making a real difference here at Wittering. With these grants we are supporting not only serving personnel, but also the Whole Force and the community. It is absolutely what we’re about and it’s been a privilege to come and meet the teams in person.”
The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust is a registered charity and non-departmental public body. The Trust looks after the Armed Forces Covenant Fund, which awards grants totalling around £10 million each year.
Wing Commander Case said: “Our service personnel are sustained by their families, friends and the community within which they serve. These grants allow us to provide targeted support to all those that are part of the Royal Air Force family, whether wearing blue or not! All of us at RAF Wittering are united in saying a huge thank you to Thomas and the Trust for their generosity.”
