Every year, pupils from Wittering Primary School design the Station’s official Christmas card. The card is sent to RAF men and women working across the world, friends of Royal Air Force Wittering and even members of the Royal Family.

The school’s Monday morning assembly began with the pupils enthusiastically singing “It was on a Starry Night”.  Group Captain Tony Keeling, Station Commander at RAF Wittering, and Mrs Bobby Keeling presented the school with a montage of the all the designs, reprinted on a long roll, before announcing the winner.

Rhys Thrower is the Headteacher at Wittering Primary School. He said: “I’m so glad I didn’t have to choose the winner. All the designs were so festive and cheerful, the children did us proud. The School and the Station achieve so much during the year, the Christmas card competition is a great way of finishing the year off.”

Zofia Dubiel’s merry and colourful design features a row of presents sitting beneath two RAF 100 banners, while some singing Christmas angels fly above. 2018 is an important year for the Royal Air Force and so Group Captain Keeling asked the pupils to include RAF100 in their designs.

Group Captain Keeling said: “Zofia’s has produced a wonderful card, full of colour and clearly celebrating the RAF100 theme, Bobby and I were immediately drawn to it. Choosing the winning Christmas card is one of the great privileges for a Station Commander but, with so many stunning designs to choose from, it’s also really difficult to choose the right one to be sent to our deployed personnel and their families.”

He concluded: “The children of Wittering Primary School are wonderfully creative, and the school is a really important part of our Station community. A big thank you and Merry Christmas to every pupil for their work in producing these amazing designs.”
