The Unit

The RAF Historical Society formed in 1986 to study and promote the RAF’s rich history. The current President of the Society is Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Johns and it is entirely self-funded by members.

The Society provides three annual lectures or seminars and other events across the UK, for those interested in RAF heritage to discuss historical topics and potentially meet personnel who participated in past events or operations.

Membership is available to anyone interested, whether serving, retired, or civilian. It costs £18 a year, and brings many benefits including: a free copy of the Society journals, transcripts of lectures and seminars, aviation essays, invites to events and the Annual General Meeting, and access to all previous journals and papers written by the Society.
