THE UNIT

Tedder Academy of Leadership is responsible for delivering world-class, through career, air-minded Leadership and Command education and training within the RAF for all ranks. In doing so it supports the RAF objectives by delivering the air power leaders of the future. Airpower, air-mindedness and operational effectiveness underpin all Tedder activity, thus differentiating it from other similar institutions. The Tedder Academy is a constituent part of a, ‘centennial reset of Trenchard’s persistent pursuit of training and education excellence,' itself part of the RAF100 legacy line of operation. The academy will, therefore, operate in a way that promotes a reputation for excellence and ensures a continued legacy. The Tedder Leadership Academy will engage with all RAF personnel but also develop and strengthen relationships with our Sister Services, academic institutions and foreign militaries.

Location

Tedder Leadership Academy is found at RAF Cranwell

Commandant

Group Captain Emma Keith BA MSc RAF

Group Captain Emma Keith joined the RAF within the Operations Support Branch in 1999.  Early in her career she realised she had a passion to work with people and to develop both individual and team performance.  Emma qualified as a coach and leadership instructor at tactical, operational and strategic level and has a Masters in Leadership and Strategic Direction.

She is a practitioner in several self-awareness tools, including MBTI, SDI and McQuaig, in addition to being a Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioner.  A trained Mediator; she has assisted the RAF, Army and Civil Service with resolving workplace conflict.

Her leadership journey led her to being the first female to run RAF officer training with responsibility for the welfare, training standards and outcomes for all staff and cadets at the RAF College.  During her tenure, the College received the first ever triple outstanding rating granted to a military officer training school.

In 2016 she was short listed in the Agent of Change and Transformational Leader category in the Northern Power Woman’s awards and was delighted to win in the Agent of Change category.  Emma now works as the Commandant of the Tedder Academy of Leadership and is responsible for setting the strategic direction for leadership and command across the RAF.  The Tedder Academy is also the HQ for Coaching and Mentoring.

Emma wants to ensure that leadership and command education and support is accessible and relevant across the Whole Force, and to encourage leadership at all levels across the organisation.
