Forces Help To Buy (FHTB) is an advance of salary scheme which was introduced in April 2014 and allows Regular Armed Forces personnel to borrow money to buy their first home.
Service personnel can borrow up to 50% of their gross annual salary (capped at £25k).
Since the scheme began, payment has been made to over 26,000 applicants, totalling over £395 million, at an average of approximately £15,240 per claim. Around 6,000 of those applicants are RAF personnel.
FHTB will be an integral part of the Future Accommodation Model (FAM) going forward. The scheme is there for all eligible Regular Service personnel and full details are available in Part 1 of the Tri-Service Accommodation Regulations, JSP 464.
