About Squadron Leader Chris McCann

Red 4

Years with the Red Arrows: 2026 is his third season with the team

Joined the RAF: 2005

RAF CAREER

Chris completed flying training at RAF Woodvale, RAF Linton-on-Ouse and RAF Valley. He was then selected to be a “Creamie” flying instructor, teaching the next generation of fast-jet pilots on the Tucano. The term Creamie is traditionally given to pilots who are selected to become flying instructors due to being above average through their advanced flying training.

Upon posting to the frontline, Chris flew the Tornado GR4 serving on 617 and IX(B) Squadrons at RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Marham. He flew on numerous operational tours around the world, being awarded the Air Force Cross during his final tour. A posting to 100 Squadron followed, flying the Hawk T1 in the “aggressor” role, providing advanced adversary and close air support training to UK and international frontline units.

More recently, Chris has held roles at Display Wing Headquarters and joined the Red Arrows for his first season in 2024.
