RAF CAREER
After finishing basic fast-jet training on the Tucano, Stu was sent to RAF Valley to complete advanced training on the Hawk T1. He was selected to fly the Typhoon FGR4 and on completion of the Operational Conversion Unit was posted to XI(F) Squadron at RAF Coningsby.
During his time on the frontline, Stuart participated in multiple exercises at home and overseas, including the United Arab Emirates and the United States. He also flew the Typhoon supporting NATO air policing in Estonia, Quick Reaction Alert in the UK and Falkland Islands as well as on operational duties in the Middle East.
Following his time on XI(F) Squadron, Stuart was selected to join 12 Squadron, the newly-formed Joint UK/Qatari Emiri Air Force Typhoon unit based at RAF Coningsby as an instructor pilot.
Stuart then joined the Red Arrows for the 2022 season. He was part of the team for its 60th diamond display campaign and took part in the five-week Maple Hawk tour to Canada during the same year. He led the Synchro Pair as Red 6 in his final season.
After completing this previous tour as a team pilot with the Red Arrows, Stu worked in Display Wing Headquarters, qualifying as a flying instructor on the Hawk.
