No. III Space Effects Squadron was formed in September 2026, as part of UK Space Command.
It operates alongside 1 Space Operations Squadron and 2 Space Warning Squadron. Together, these squadrons monitor space, act against adversaries, and provide space support to the armed forces.
No. III Space Effects Squadron is the RAF’s first squadron to deliver operations in support of the UK’s Control of Space Requirement, which was set out in the 2026 UK Space Strategy.
This squadron disrupts, degrades, and denies hostile activity, to defend UK space interests. Though this, 3 Space Effects Squadron maintains operational advantage from space for UK and allied forces and denies that advantage to adversaries.
