RAF Brize Norton Aviator takes on 255km challenge in support of Walking With The Wounded

An aviator from Royal Air Force Brize Norton is undertaking a demanding 255km running challenge, whereby he will be running 8.5km everyday throughout June in support of Walking With The Wounded, while honouring those who lost their lives during the Falklands conflict.

Corporal Louis from the RAF Police Flight, based at the UK’s principal Air Mobility hub, is completing the equivalent of over six marathons across the month, demonstrating resilience, determination and commitment to a cause that continues to support veterans across the Armed Forces community.

The challenge has been timed to coincide with the anniversary period of the Falklands conflict, serving as a personal act of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice in 1982.

Walking With The Wounded is a leading military charity which provides employment support, mental health care and rehabilitation services for veterans who have been wounded, injured or become ill during their service.

Corporal Louis said:

“This challenge is both physically and mentally demanding, but it is nothing compared to the sacrifices made by those we are remembering. I chose to pay tribute the lives lost during the Falklands War because after being deployed there and experiencing the adverse conditions of the Island’s and weather they faced during the war, I believe the magnitude of bravery and resilience they must have had is unimaginable and can’t be put into words. I wanted to do something that not only honours their legacy but also supports today’s veterans as they transition to life beyond service.”

“This challenge is a powerful example of the values demonstrated by our personnel. It reflects both remembrance and a continued commitment to supporting the wider Armed Forces community.”
