RAF Brize Norton Hosts Gloucestershire Local Resilience Forum

Royal Air Force Brize Norton welcomed members of the Gloucestershire Local Resilience Forum (LRF) for an engagement visit aimed at strengthening collaboration and deepening understanding of the Station’s operational role and its impact across the county.

The visit provided LRF representatives with valuable insight into the operational output of RAF Brize Norton, the UK’s principal air mobility hub, and how its activities directly relate to resilience planning and response within Gloucestershire.

The programme included a briefing from Wing Commander Tom, Officer Commanding Operations Support Wing, who outlined the scope, scale and pace of operations conducted from the Station. This was followed by an opportunity to visit a 99 Squadron aircraft, offering a first-hand perspective of the aircraft and capabilities routinely employed in support of UK and overseas operations.

Officer commanding Operations Support Wing, Wing Commander Tom said:

“It was a pleasure to host representatives from the Gloucestershire Local Resilience Forum at RAF Brize Norton. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to demonstrate the scale and complexity of the Station’s operational output, and to highlight how our activity directly supports and impacts the resilience of the county. This event strengthened our understanding of the specialist roles each organisation conducts and how we would work together to ensure an effective, joined-up response to routine, emergency and contingency operations.”

The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen engagement with key stakeholders across the Gloucestershire LRF. By fostering a shared understanding of roles, responsibilities and working practices, the visit supports the development of a more cohesive and coordinated approach to planning and response.

Such collaboration is vital in ensuring an effective joint response in the event of any major aircraft or air systems incident within Gloucestershire boundaries, where close cooperation between military and civilian partners is essential.

Royal Air Force Brize Norton remains committed to working with partner organisations to enhance regional resilience and ensure a joined-up approach to managing risk and responding to incidents.
