Armed Forces Week

Our personnel serve around the globe every day to protect the UK both at home and overseas. RAF Cosford has continued to work to send young men and women to front line stations through this difficult time so that the Royal Air Force can continue to meet its Defence commitment.

Reserves train to the same high standards as Regular personnel and perform a crucial role within the Service. Working around their day job, using their weekends, they gain transferable skills and a rewarding lifestyle that offers the best of both worlds. A Logistic Support Sqn, 605 Sqn is a lodger unit at RAF Cosford, is very much embedded within the Station and has a healthy working relationship with Cosford personnel.

LAC Ben Hickie

LAC Ben Hickie is a Part Time Reservist on 605 Squadron; he joined the squadron a year and a half ago as an MT Driver.

Ben worked for Babcock for 15 years, and has recently started as a service engineer for ZEISS; while he was employed with Babcock he spent a year out in Afghan as one of the engineers in 2012. He has always to join the Military but wasn’t sure which service to go into, his year in Afghan gave him an insight into military life and helped him make the decision to join the reserves.

Since being with 605 he has learned new skills, had new experiences, one of which was off-roading as part of his driver training, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

“My friend John, helped me with the process and got me started on my application, he was already on 605 and encouraged me to join.”
