National Apprenticeship Week 5-11 Feb

All 5 apprentices have recently began their phase 2 training and apprenticeship journey at RAF Cosford and we are going to use our social media platforms to update our followers with how their training is going, all the way through to graduation.

Kyle is training to be a Cyber Space Communications Specialist.

“Initial Recruit Training at RAF Halton, I can say that the experience was challenging overall but it was good for teaching us the standards and discipline expected within the RAF."

"I am mainly looking forward to the networking phase of my phase 2 course, as it’s the element that I am finding the most appealing to learn about, but I may change my mind as the course goes on and I learn about the different fields the profession has.”

Jake is training to become a Survival Equipment Technician.

AR Cartwright is stood within No2 School of Technical Training, RAF Cosford
"I chose the RAF as my career path because I like the lifestyle offered, like the sporting chances as well as the chance to create my own career path with my own skills. Since I was little, I’ve always wanted to join up, so it was the first thing I looked into when I turned 16 and was looking for a career after my GCSEs.

"I’m looking forward to fully settling into my apprenticeship within Number 2 School of Technical Training, as it will give me the grounds to build my career from and prepare me for life within the Royal Air Force as a Survival Equipment Technician”.

Owen is training to become an Aircraft Engineer (Avionics).

AR King is sat in front of a Tornado aircraft within No1School of Technical Training
"I am now training to become an Avionics Technician. My number one reason for choosing Avionics was to work on the aircraft I’d seen at Air Shows as a kid. The roar of a typhoon is firmly imprinted in my head! I’m quite technically minded, and after researching the role I found the problem-solving aspects quite appealing."

"The added bonus with the Royal Air Force is that I am also able to pursue my passion for adventure through Adventurous Training, which the RAF offers."

Tristan is training to become a Weapons Technician.

“I came to RAF Cosford on the 3rd of December and started training the day after, so far, I am really enjoying it here. The instructors are very nice, patient and know their stuff!

“Initial Recruitment Training at RAF Halton, lasted 10 weeks and was difficult but very enjoyable and it really helped me get some great friends in the other recruits that were on my intake. A few of which are also here undertaking their apprenticeships, so we are in it together helping each other out where we can."

Lewis is training to be an Aircraft Engineer (Mechanical).

AR Pawson is sitting on the wing of the RAFAT Hawk within No.1School of Technical Training
“Aircraft Technician (Mechanical) is my chosen profession as I have always sought after a career in engineering and thought that it would be very interesting being hands on with aircraft, after a few years in the IT sector I realised it wasn’t the career I was after, and engineering would be better for me.

“Even though I am only just in the beginning phases of my apprenticeship, I am already looking to my future RAF Career, so I’m most looking forward to graduating from Cosford and being able to apply the knowledge I will learn into my specified field, with rotary aircraft being my chosen airframe and would love to work on the Chinooks at RAF Odiham”
