Low flying

Flying training takes place all year round at RAF Cranwell. A usual flying day is 8am to 5:30pm Mon-Thu, 8am to 5pm Fri, and 9am to 5pm Sat-Sun.

Every effort is made to minimise the disruption to local communities. Noise levels may sometimes increase due to training taking place over the airfield or from transiting fast jets or helicopters, undertaking low flying practice.

Drone Flying

Operators flying drones near any military airfield must ensure they are aware of the UK policy for their safe operation. The Drone Code forms part of the Civil Aviation Authority's advice and guidance to drone operators.

It is illegal to fly any drone at any time within a Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) without permission, and failure to comply could result in criminal prosecution. To fly a drone within the RAF Cranwell and/or RAF Barkston Heath FRZ, permission is to be sought from RAF Cranwell Station Operations via the contact details above.

The RAF Cranwell & RAF Barkston Heath FRZs are highlighted in purple below.
