In September 2026, at the RAF Officer Training Academy (RAFOTA), RAF Cranwell, Flight Sergeant (FS) McDermott was awarded the prestigious Jack Holt Memorial Trophy. This engraved pace stick is presented to the SNCO who has done the most to instil in Officer Cadets the qualities required of an RAF Officer – integrity, professionalism, dedication, discipline and humanity.
The award commemorates Flight Sergeant Jack Holt BEM MBE, whose selfless commitment and inspirational leadership at RAF Cranwell from the 1950s onwards shaped generations of RAF Officers. His legacy of excellence, humour and humanity continues to guide the training of cadets today. Recognised by both peers and the Cranwellian Association, FS McDermott’s achievement reflects those very same values and stands as a testament to his outstanding impact on the future leaders of the RAF.
