Tiny Tumbles, Big Skills: RAF Fylingdales Hosts Life-Saving Paediatric First Aid Course

At RAF Fylingdales, we know the importance of being prepared—whether it’s monitoring the skies or looking after the little ones running around them! That’s why our recent paediatric first aid course was such a resounding success. Funded and supported by the RAF Benevolent Fund through their Ben Play/Ben Fund programme, the course equipped new parents and personnel involved in youth activities with vital skills to respond confidently to a range of child-related emergencies.

Over the two day course our community centre buzzed with activity as participants learned everything from treating bumps and bruises to tackling more serious situations like choking or burns. The interactive sessions weren’t just educational; they were empowering, with attendees sharing laughs, stories, and the occasional "I had no idea that could happen!" moment. By the end of the day, everyone agreed: these were skills they hoped they’d never need but were deeply grateful to have learned.

“It’s one of those things you don’t think about until you’re in the moment,” said one new Dad attending the course. “Now I feel ready to handle situations I wouldn’t have had a clue about before.” The hands-on approach helped participants gain not just technical know-how but also confidence in their ability to stay calm under pressure.

The RAF Benevolent Fund’s unwavering support made it all possible. Their Ben Play/Ben Fund programme continues to empower RAF communities, ensuring families have access to resources that make a real difference. As our station serves as a hub of activity for personnel and their families, this course exemplifies the RAF Benevolent Fund's commitment to keeping us all safe and supported—no matter how small the challenge (or the patient!).
