In a day full of engagements with various areas around the Station AVM James began his day opening the new Welfare Facility for the Servicemen Awaiting Trade Training, SATTs. Once the Basic Recruit Training Course is completed, a number of Airmen and women will remain at Halton until they are able to take part in their Phase 2 training. SATTs are valued on the station and enjoy various opportunities to experience Station life and so it has been important to Training Wing to ensure that they have the availability of a facility that they can call their own, the ‘SATT Cave’.

In 2018 the underpass underwent a refurbishment which involved hand prints from the Chief of the Air Staff, Station Commander, Station personnel and local children. This visit was the opportunity for AVM James to become part of this legacy also as he dipped his hands into the paint.

Airmen’s Command Squadron introduced AVM James to a fully interactive teaching system, Artemis. Artemis is a spaceship simulator that allows for various people to take control or elements of a spaceship, providing hands on leadership experience in a different setting.

Lunch was followed by an Honours and Awards Ceremony where he presented 19 awards to personnel from the station, from the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal to Sporting Colours. After the ceremony was over the final element of the day was a presentation from a group of the Station’s Holding Officers. These Officers are currently holding in roles whilst they await their Pilot training. From the Operations Squadron, to Joint Information Activities Group, the Tri-Service Media Specialists, the holding Officers bring value daily to various areas on Station. The presentation told the AOC of the work they carry out day to day but also the experiences that are available to them whilst they await their phase 2 training.
