Frequently Asked Questions
"What times are you flying this week?"
For operational and security reasons we cannot disclose specific timings for any aircraft flights. Spotters visiting the area are recommended to visit on a weekday to avoid disappointment.
Where possible we will post flying notices to our Facebook page to inform the local community of different operating hours (e.g. night-flying) or visiting aircraft (e.g. rotary exercises that may low-fly over the area).
"Can I come on station to take photos/visit?"
We are an activity military airbase and therefore do not offer the public access to our station. Many enthusiasts choose to watch aircraft take-off and land from outside the wire.
If looking for a more interactive experience there are also a wealth of aviation museums,
attractions, and sites to visit in the local area that are accessible to the public.
"What do I do if I see a drone over Lossiemouth?"
If you see any unmanned aerial system (UAS) or drone flying within the vicinity of RAF Lossiemouth you should immediately report this to ATC via their telephone no: 01343 816872.
They will verify whether the flight is permitted and take appropriate action.
"Can I fly my drone?"
Lossiemouth is located within RAF Lossiemouth's Military Air Traffic Zone (MATZ). Therefore all drone flights must be approved by us before you put the drone in the air.
For more details and the application form email us at: [email protected].
Due to operational capacity we recommend you submit requests 2 weeks prior to your planned activity. We cannot always guarantee your specific slot will be available, but the time will endeavour to help where they can.
"Can you do anything for a Veterans Birthday?"
We often receive requests for cards, visits, or flypasts for Veterans' milestone birthdays.
RAF Lossiemouth values our Veterans' and will always aim to fulfil these requests where possible.
Any requests for birthday cards/messages/flypasts should be sent to: [email protected].
"Do you have information on my relative who served?"
As a general rule the Station does not hold information of individuals after a certain amount of years. If it is information directly tied to an incident at Lossiemouth or events related to Station then we may be able to help.
