Employers from across the region were given a rare behind-the-scenes look at life inside 505 (Wessex) Squadron during a dynamic Employer Engagement event hosted at RAF St Mawgan.
The day offered a unique opportunity for civilian employers to connect with the squadron’s Employment Engagement Officer, Reservists and Staff to gain firsthand insight into the roles their reservist employees undertake. From strategic briefings to hands-on military simulations, the event showcased the depth of training and transferable skills developed within the RAF Reserves.
Among the highlights was the Dismounted Close Combat Trainer (DCCT) – a cutting-edge, computer-simulated firing range that allows personnel to hone their marksmanship in a safe, controlled environment. Employers also took part in a military vehicle camouflage demonstration, revealing the tactical precision and teamwork that underpin operational success.
Flight Lieutenant Barber, who led the day’s activities, praised the event as a fantastic opportunity for employers to see what their employees do at 505 (Wessex) Squadron and the transferrable skills that they can bring to their place of work.
The event reinforced the value of collaboration between the RAF and local businesses, highlighting how military training cultivates leadership, discipline and adaptability - qualities that enrich any workplace.
