Historic Vehicles and Future Engineers: RAF St Mawgan Strengthens Partnership with Bodmin Keep

RAF St Mawgan has been strengthening its partnership with Cornwall’s Army Museum at Bodmin Keep through a unique blend of military heritage and forward-looking STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) engagement.

Earlier this month, personnel from the Engineering and Logistics Squadron hosted colleagues from Bodmin Keep for a hands-on familiarisation with their iconic Ferret light armoured vehicle which was at RAF St Mawgan for essential brake maintenance.

It was a privilege to help give the Ferret a new lease of life on behalf of Bodmin Keep - hopefully the work completed will keep it running for generations to come.

Alongside preserving the past, the Squadron has also been inspiring the next generation. Over the past year, the team has delivered a series of STEM workshops at Bodmin Keep as part of its school holiday programme.  Activities have included rocket-building challenges, Sphero robotics and paper aeroplane design, all proving hugely popular with local young people and sparking creativity and curiosity.

The team has further workshops planned for the May half term with rocket building on Wednesday 27th May and a brand-new plane workshop on the 28th May. With further new activities in development for the summer, RAF St Mawgan continues to build strong community links while promoting both military heritage and future careers in science and engineering.
