Last week, the proud spirit of service and community was on full display as members of 505 (Wessex) RAuxAF Squadron from RAF St Mawgan supported the prestigious Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall Awards at New County Hall, Truro.

Four dedicated part-time Reservists brought energy and insight to the event, showcasing two of the Squadron’s military vehicles and engaging with award winners and guests about the exciting opportunities offered through Reserve Service. From operational roles to community engagement, the team highlighted the Squadron’s achievements and activities over the past year.
Adding a striking visual spectacle outside New County Hall was RAF St Mawgan’s Rowing Gig ‘Vigila’, symbolising teamwork, resilience and the connection to Cornwall’s maritime heritage.

Also representing the Squadron were Flight Sergeant Melanie Findler and Sergeant Aly Gaisford, two of RAF St Mawgan’s permanent staff and proud members of the RAF Ladies Gig Rowing Team. Their presence underscored the diverse talents and commitment within the RAF community.
This inspiring collaboration between the RAF and the Lord Lieutenant’s office celebrated not only excellence in service but also the enduring bond between the Armed Forces and the people of Cornwall.
