RAF Waddington children and families services offer a range of facilities that cater for children from three months to 13 years old.  

The before and after school club, run by 4Children operates from the Integrated Welfare Facility during term time.

Family contact and temporary accommodation

The RAF Waddington Contact Houses are a facility of the Station Community Welfare Support System.

The Houses are intended to provide temporary accommodation for a wide variety of purposes such as compassionate cases, child custody visits, emergency re-housing due to fire, flood or simply to accommodate visiting family and friends.  

There are two properties available from £30 per night, a four bedroom “Waddington Lodge” and a two bedroom bungalow.

All properties are fully furnished including white goods, TV, bedding and toys for the children.

Health and welfare

Medical centre

The medical centre on the station are for RAF personnel only. Dependants of RAF personnel should register with a local medical practice. 

Dental Centre

The dental centre on the station are for RAF personnel only. Dependants of personnel should register with a local dental practice. 

SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity

SSAFA Personal Support & Social Work Service RAF (PS&SWS RAF) is contracted by the MOD to provide welfare support to all serving personnel (regular and reserves) and their families.  Our team of specialist Personal & Family Support Workers and Social Workers are located on stations in the RAF community throughout the UK.

Our service is confidential and independent from the Chain of Command.  It is the aim of our service to support you to enhance personal welfare, maintain family stability and empower you to access the support networks you are entitled to.

Our service can support you with a range of issues including addiction & dependency, child support, financial, housing, mental health, personal support, physical health and relationships.

Anyone can refer themselves to SSAFA.  You can contact our service by any of the ways below;

The chaplains at RAF Waddington are here to support the whole community including serving RAF personnel, dependants, civilians and contractors.

Chaplains provide a confidential listening ear for those facing ethical difficulties, problems at work or difficulties at home.

With a wealth of experience of service life and deployments, the chaplains can offer advice and support and can engage with other areas of the Station and welfare providers on and off the Station in order to resolve issues.

The Chaplaincy Centre is located at 29 Edinburgh Square opposite the Church of the Resurrection on High Dyke.


Station gym

The Station has a fully equipped gym. You can join the station gym if you are serving RAF personnel, dependant of a serving RAF personnel, a civilian personnel or contractor. 

There is an annual gym membership which covers personal liability insurance. 

Everyone who uses the gym has to attend a gymnasium induction to familiarise themselves with the facilities and Health and Safety orders.

If you require access to the gym out of hours then a £5 deposit is required for a key fob. This is payable at the gym at the time of the induction.

Sports pitches and courts

Outside facilities include tennis courts, football and rugby pitch, all weather pitch, and squash courts.

There is also a resistance training area, a multi-purpose indoor sports hall, an astroturf area and climbing wall.

Integrated Welfare Facility

The RAF Waddington Integrated Welfare Facility (IWF) is currently being extended and therefore the temporary housing of the IWF occupants is located at 9 Slessor Street (Service Family Accommodation). It is home to the Community Support Team including the Hive, Warrant Officer Community Support, Sergeant Community Support and SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity.

Whilst the IWF is under construction, various groups including Mums & Toddlers, Youth Club and Brownies & Guides are housed across various locations across the unit. Full details of all the groups including contact information, please contact the Hive:

Bars and cafés

The bars and cafés on the Station are open to dependents of RAF personnel. You’ll need to ask your spouse or partner to apply for RAF ID if you wish to use them. 

Ravens Bar

Evening entertainment includes bop nights, quiz nights and live music. Rear rooms are available to book for functions, meetings or parent groups.

Real Bean Café

The Real Bean Café is located in the IWF (Opposite the HIVE). Cash only, however, a free cashpoint machine is available in the nearby Spar shop.

Cafe Qualita

Café Qualitá is located in the Junior Ranks’ Mess.

You can pay by cash card or chit (Waddington mess members only) in Café Qualitá.

Opening times: Monday to Friday, 7am to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 8pm. 

Children and young people

Children and young people’s activities and clubs are run by Airplay in the RAF Waddington HIVE Community Centre in term time:

  • Cooking and games. Monday, 6pm to 8pm, ages eleven to eighteen18, cost £1
  • Junior youth club. Tuesday, 6pm to 8pm, ages eight to eleven, cost £1
  • Senior youth club. Wednesday, 7:30pm to 9pm, ages eleven to eighteen, cost £1
  • Physical activities, sports and fun. Thursday, 6pm to 8pm, ages eight to eighteen, cost £1

Mums and toddler groups and other groups such as Brownies and Guides are held in the Integrated Welfare Facility.

Heritage Centre 

The centre is open to all civilians and RAF personnel on an appointment basis.  The centre is free although a small donation to enable the upkeep is appreciated.
