Inspector of Safety (RAF) - Air Commodore Sam Sansome MBA BEng CEng MRAeS RAFR

Air Commodore Sam Sansome MBA, BEng, CEng, MRAeS RAF is Inspector of Safety (RAF) - a title change from Hd Safety. Air Cdre Sansome joined the RAF in 1986, graduating from Loughborough University in 1989 after studying Engineering Science and Technology.

He has fulfilled tours at RAF Laarbruch, RAF Lossiemouth (Buccaneer, Hunter and Tornado), RAF Strike Command (Tornado Role Office) and RAF Wyton (Harrier Fleet Manager and Tornado Structures Engineering Authority). He served at RAF Benson, working on Puma and Merlin helicopters, and in Headquarters 2 Group with logistics and engineering responsibility for all 2 Group future platforms, before commanding Engineering and Supply Wing at RAF Brize Norton.

Air Cdre Sansome was HQ 2 Group's Chief Air Engineer prior to joining the Safety Centre as the new Inspector of Safety (RAF) on 1 Mar 21 – the first non-aircrew officer to lead the RAF Safety Centre.
