The RAF's first 'all-jet' flying training programme commenced at No. 2 Flying Training School in Hullavington, Wiltshire, with Jet Provosts. The first pilot flew solo after 8 hours 20 minutes’ instruction on October 17, 1955. The prototype Hunting Percival Jet Provost T.1 first flew on 26 June 1954.
