In 1918, Sir Hugh Trenchard had originally decreed that a Reserve Air Force should be set up on a Territorial basis.  An order in Council, made in the name of the King, was signed on the 9th October 1924 to establish the Auxiliary Air Force.  602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron became the first Auxiliary Air Force Squadron to be formed on 12th September 1925, equipped with DH9a bomber aircraft.
