History of the Prefect T1 Mk1

The Grob 120TP (Prefect T1) is a modern evolution of Grob’s two-seat sporting and aerobatic aircraft line, which began with the Grob G 115 in 1985 and included the G 115E, widely used in the UK as the Tutor. First flown in 2010, the 120TP features a composite airframe, turboprop engine, digital avionics, and a glass cockpit.

Under the UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS), Affinity ordered 23 Prefects on 2cFebruary 2016, and received the first pair on November 16. Operations began on 1 August 2017, with five aircraft at RAF Barkston Heath. The inaugural training flight was conducted by Sqn Ldr Balshaw of the RAF Central Flying School and Ascent Chief Pilot Nigel Scopes, marking the first new UKMFTS flight since the Hawk T2's 2009 introduction.
