Maritime patrol aircraft from Germany, France and the United Kingdom have joined forces in northern Scotland as part of Exercise Strike Warrior, enhancing NATO interoperability and strengthening maritime security across the North Sea.
Operating from RAF Lossiemouth, maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) worked alongside allied naval assets in waters around the UK during the Royal Navy-led exercise. The three-week programme focused on anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare and the integration of air and maritime capabilities in increasingly complex operational scenarios.

French Navy personnel from 23rd Maritime Patrol Squadron deployed to RAF Lossiemouth with their maritime patrol aircraft for the duration of the exercise.
"The maritime environment is constantly evolving, and so are the platforms and systems we operate.
Aircraft, ships and submarines are all becoming more capable, but what really matters is our ability to work together, by sharing information and combining capabilities."
Lieutenant Maxime
The German Navy also returned to RAF Lossiemouth with its P-8A Poseidon aircraft, acquired by the Bundeswehr in 2025. The deployment marks the German Poseidon force's second participation in a major exercise from the station this year, following Exercise Dynamic Mongoose.
The UK and Germany's shared operation of the Poseidon platform strengthens the wider allied fleet. It enhances collective capabilities in maritime surveillance, anti-submarine warfare, maritime security and search-and-rescue operations worldwide.

"One of the highlights of the exercise has been the opportunity to operate alongside our UK counterparts and put our crews and aircraft through realistic and demanding scenarios.
For my detachment, it has been particularly valuable to learn from one another, share experiences and understand how another Poseidon force approaches similar operational challenges."

The close cooperation demonstrated during Strike Warrior reflects the growing defence partnership between the United Kingdom and Germany following the signing of the Trinity House Agreement in October 2024.
The agreement strengthened defence and security ties between both nations and continues to be reinforced through regular multinational training and operational activity.
Throughout the exercise, participating aircraft conducted a series of challenging maritime scenarios, operating as both defending and opposing forces alongside fighter aircraft, surface vessels and submarines. These serials tested the ability of allied forces to detect, track and respond to threats across the maritime battlespace while integrating capabilities across multiple domains.
Typhoon fighter aircraft from IX(B) Squadron, based at RAF Lossiemouth, also took part in surface warfare training, working alongside United States Navy assets to provide additional airpower and demonstrate the importance of coordinated multinational operations.
Exercise Strike Warrior continues to provide a vital opportunity for allied nations to train together, strengthen interoperability and ensure they remain ready to respond to evolving challenges in the maritime domain.
