About Medical Operations

The Medical Operations team within HQ AIR, lead all operational medical planning, including the allocation of personnel to roles. They work in conjunction with Permanent Joint Headquarters to ascertain the operational requirement, and formally task HQ Tactical Medical Wing (TMW) and Medical Reserves Support Cell (MRSC) to Force Generate (FGen) and Force Prepare (FPrep) our Medical Capabilities and personnel to support Defence Taskings.

In addition, it supports Comd Med Force's Competent Medical Authority role by advising on Air related medical matters and assisting in, and assuring, medical planning.

About Tactical Medical Wing

Tactical Medical Wing‘s role is to train, equip and deploy RAF Medical Services personnel as Force Elements in support of operations and exercises and to provide quality worldwide Aeromedical Evacuation Services for Defence. 

It acts as the ‘operational hub’ for all personnel of the RAF Medical Services. Acting primarily in an enabling capacity, it performs 4 key operational tasks: the provision of immediately deployable high readiness personnel, worldwide aeromedical evacuation, operational medical training, and the provision of medical logistics.

About Medical Reserves Wing

RAF Medical Reserves are an integral part of the RAF Medical Force. Coordinated through the Wing HQ at RAF Wittering, Personnel from the RAF Medical Reserve Squadrons work alongside their regular colleagues support of exercises, training, and deployments in the UK and overseas, which includes pre-hospital care and strategic and deployed aeromedical capabilities.
