Exercise HADES WARRIOR is up and running at RAF Leeming. Over the course of two weeks, experienced helicopter pilots will be put through their paces at a whole new level in order to become Qualified Weapons Instructors and Qualified Helicopter Tactics Instructors on platforms including Chinook, Wildcat, Apache and Merlin.
Students from all three services will be assessed to the highest standards on serials including air-to-air combat, electronic warfare training and air assault. Successful completion will see them returning to the frontline as the main point of contact for tactics and flying queries on their squadrons.
Sqn Ldr ‘Mac’ Macgillivray, 22 Squadron Exercise lead and Flight Commander Tactics training, is in charge of the exercise. He said “We have designed the course to upskill frontline rotary pilots and rear crew to instruct war-fighting disciplines. Training in a tri-service environment helps sharpen the interoperable capabilities of Joint Aviation Command assets, including Merlins, Chinooks, Apaches and Wildcats.”
