His Majesty King Charles III visited RAF Marham today in his capacity as the station's Honorary Air Commodore, receiving a warm welcome from service families and personnel who lined the main gate waving flags to mark the occasion.
During the visit, His Majesty formally opened one of RAF Marham's new Junior Ranks Barrack Blocks, taking the opportunity to view one of the newly refurbished rooms.
The King then travelled to a station hangar, where he viewed an F-35B Lightning aircraft and met with personnel from across the station. A series of stands had been set up to showcase RAF Marham's achievements over the past year, including its contribution to Operation HIGHMAST and Operation LUMINOUS, as well as the station's BeReady campaign. The Community Support and sustainment teams also presented their work before His Majesty spoke with the families of personnel who had been deployed on operations.
As The King left the hangar, he was presented with a jar of RAF Marham's own 'Buzz Lightning' honey, produced by bees kept on the station.
His Majesty was accompanied throughout the visit by the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, The Lady Dannatt MBE.
Following The King’s departure from the station, Lady Dannatt continued the visit at the Community Hub, where she met the team responsible for supporting RAF Marham's families and personnel through a wide range of events and activities. In the garden of the Sandringham Centre, Lady Dannatt met with families who had used the centre over the past year, hearing about the different activities on offer to support the station's community.
RAF Marham Station Commander, Group Captain Leonie Boyd, said: "It was a real honour to welcome His Majesty to RAF Marham, giving him the chance to meet the personnel and families whose hard work and dedication have defined the past year, from achievements on Exercises and Operations to successes across the station and numerous engagement events with the local community. With the station celebrating its 110th anniversary, this visit felt particularly special, reflecting RAF Marham's long and proud connection with the Royal Family throughout its history."
