Family contact and temporary accommodation

The Contact House is fully furnished and located off the Station.  Up to five adults can be accommodated and a cot for young children is also available. There is a television, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave oven, fridge and a brick BBQ in the back garden.

There are two community apartments which are located within the Station. Each apartment is en-suite and fully furnished. Up to three adults can be accommodated in each individual apartment and each has a cot for young children.  

The Station contact accommodation is available to all service and civil service personnel.

Medical centre

The Medical Centre caters to both service personnel and their families located within a 5-mile radius of RAF Shawbury.

The Dental Centre on the Station is for Service personnel only.  Dependents of Service personnel will need to register with a local Dental Practice.

The SSAFA support RAF personnel and their family to maintain family stability, enhance personal welfare and access support systems and networks.

Station Gym

The Station gym has a multitude of activities and facilities.

You can join the gym if you are a dependant of a service person based at RAF Shawbury.

Sports pitches and courts

Facilities include a sports hall, weights bay, cardiovascular fitness suite, two squash courts, three tennis courts, outdoor astroturf area, indoor five a side football pitch, grass pitches, indoor hockey pitch and high ropes.

Discounted golf tickets and golf membership is available at Hawkstone Park Golf Club.

Social

The Cookson Community Centre

The Cookson Community Centre is located at the top right-hand corner of the main car park and houses the offices of the Community Development Officer, the Service Community Support Officer, the HIVE Information Centre, the Station Youth Worker and SSAFA.

It also has a community room, a conservatory, small kitchen and a meeting room which are all available to our community to either book out or drop in to use.

The Aries Club 

The Aries Club is open to all ranks and has SKY Sports with a large screen TV.

Opening times: Monday to Friday, 8am to 11:30pm, Saturday and Sunday, 7pm to 11:30pm.

  • Breakfast - Monday to Friday, 8am to 11am
  • Lunch - Monday to Friday, 11am to 1:30pm 
  • Dinner - Monday to Thursday 4:30 to 8pm

Children and young people

The Junior Youth Club meets on a Tuesday, 6:15pm to 7.45pm.  Ages 8 to 11 years.

Airplay Senior Youth Club meet three times a week for 11 to 18 years:

  • Monday, 6pm to 8pm
  • Wednesday, 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Airplay Junior Youth Club meets once a week for 8 to 11 years:

  • Thursday, 6pm to 8pm

The youth clubs meet in the Youth Clubs building at the rear of the Aries Club through the garden gate next to the ISS office.  

The youth clubs are open to young people who are dependents of servicemen and women on the posted strength of RAF Shawbury or, dependants of entitled personnel not on unit strength where their dependents are still resident in the local area. In addition, dependants of MOD civilian and permanent contract staff working at RAF Shawbury are also entitled to membership of the youth clubs.

Membership costs £1 and weekly subs are £1.
