Family Contact and Temporary Accommodation

The Contact House is fully furnished and located off the Station.  Up to five adults can be accommodated and a cot for young children is also available. There is a television, washing machine, tumble dryer, microwave oven, fridge and a brick BBQ in the back garden.

There are two community apartments which are located within the Station. Each apartment is en-suite and fully furnished. Up to three adults can be accommodated in each individual apartment and each has a cot for young children.  

The Station contact accommodation is available to all service and civil service personnel.

Dental Centre

The Dental Centre on the Station is for Service personnel only.  Dependants of Service personnel will need to register with a local Dental Practice. Details of local Dentists are available from the HIVE.

SSAFA PS&SWS

SSAFA Personal Support & Social Work Service RAF (PS&SWS RAF) is contracted by the RAF to provide welfare support to all serving personnel (regular and reserves) and their families. Our team of specialist Personal & Family Support Workers and Social Workers are located on stations in the RAF community throughout the UK.

Our service is confidential and independent from the Chain of Command. It is the aim of our service to support you to enhance personal welfare, maintain family stability and empower you to access the support networks you are entitled to.

Our service can support you with a range of issues including addiction & dependency, child support, financial, housing, mental health, personal support, physical health and relationships.

Anyone, regular, reserve or dependent, can refer themselves to SSAFA. You can contact our service by any of the ways below;

Station Gym

The Station gym has a multitude of activities and facilities.

You can join the gym if you are a dependant of a service person based at RAF Shawbury.

Sports Pitches and Courts

Facilities include a sports hall, weights bay, cardiovascular fitness suite, two squash courts, three tennis courts, outdoor astroturf area, indoor five a side football pitch, grass pitches, indoor hockey pitch and high ropes.

The Cookson Community Centre

The Cookson Community Centre is located at the top right-hand corner of the main car park and houses the offices of the Community Development Officer, the Service Community Support Officer, the HIVE Information Centre, the Station Youth Worker and SSAFA.

It also has a community room, a conservatory, small kitchen and a meeting room which are all available to our community to either book out or drop in to use.

The Aries Club 

The Aries Club is open to all ranks and has SKY Sports with a large screen TV.

Opening times: Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. The facility is now self-service from 08:00 – 16:00. Bar open 7 days a week 7pm to 11pm.

Children and young people

Airplay Senior Youth Club (13 to 18 years) meet on Mondays, from 18:00 to 20:00.

Airplay Intermediate Youth Club (11 to 13 years) meet on Thursdays, from 18:00 to 19:45.

Airplay Junior Youth Club (8 to 11 years) meet on Tuesday, from 18:00 to 19:45.

The youth clubs meet in the  new Youth Activities Club opposite Jubilee Hall Gym.

The youth clubs are open to young people who are dependants of servicemen and women on the posted strength of RAF Shawbury or, dependants of entitled personnel not on unit strength where their dependants are still resident in the local area. In addition, dependants of Veterans, MOD civilian and permanent contract staff working at RAF Shawbury are also entitled to membership of the youth clubs.

Membership costs £1 and weekly subs are £1.
