By producing non-safety critical equipment at unit level, it supported problem solving end-to-end and at low cost.

It has been a very successful Astra Sprint and has paved the way for 3D Additive Manufacturing to be a permanent capability for the RAF.  Working alongside the Rapid Capabilities Office and A4 Capability, the initiative is being extended to metal 3D manufacturing.

Astra will continue to support the plastic manufacturing which has already seen 3D printing equipment successfully delivered to more than 15 locations across RAF Main Operating Bases and other establishments including British Forces Cyprus, British Forces South Atlantic Islands, and HMS Queen Elizabeth.
