With our engineers and other ground aviators routinely operating on airfields with moving aircraft, visibility is a key element of maintaining safety.

Clothing also needs to be fit-for-purpose to meet the additional demands of operating near aircraft, for example if there is a fuel spillage. Project FLOW will trial a clothing design that aims to ensure safety for all aviators operating in the vicinity of an aircraft.

The bespoke safety clothing meets all health and safety regulations without the requirement for additional items such as coveralls or high-visibility vests. As well as being highly visible, even in poor weather conditions, it provides enhanced protection for our aviators from fuel spillages and fires.

Project FLOW will conduct a limited trial of the clothing at RAF Benson. It hopes to demonstrate an increase in safety, enhanced comfort for aviators and a lower overall kitting cost owing to greater durability. It is also expected to significantly increase airfield safety for ground aviators as it ensures every element of the individual is visible, even if their upper body is hidden behind an aircraft.
