Unmanned Aerial Systems are being used by the RAF, such as the Protector RG Mk 1 (MQ-9B).

The RAF's Unmanned Aerial Systems are the latest in advanced technology and, as with all aircraft, require the aircrew operating them to be highly trained.

At times live aircraft will be unavailable or unsuited to the training task – for example, we avoid training for aircraft emergencies or significant malfunctions when using a real aircraft.  However, this training still needs to be completed to ensure our aircrew are as fully trained as possible for all future operations.

Project MARVEL aims to use the Malet JSIL aircrew trainer to assess the viability of delivering elements of aircrew training synthetically.

The initial trial has been successfully completed and further investigations are now underway to assess the impact.
