I've had many career highlights, but there are two that stand out, so far. The first was being awarded the RAF Advanced Apprentice of the Year award, after completing my NVQ in Aeronautical Engineering. I couldn't have been more proud of myself.
The second highlight was being promoted to Corporal. I officially got my tapes (promotion) after working as hard as I could to get the recognition needed.
The list of highlights could go on and on. I've been serving six years and they have flown by.
The best thing about my current role is the opportunities to go overseas.
A lot of the training I support takes place in California. Sometimes I am there for up to 15 weeks a year.
The hours can be long but the sunshine and stand down days make up for it. If the exercise is going well, and the Parachute Jumping Instructors have time, there is space for a tandem parachute jump. I've done this: jumping out the back of a C130 over the California desert for the first time, is an experience I won't forget!
