4 Capability and Innovation Squadron

4 Capability and Innovation Squadron falls under Operational Information Services Wing. They provide technical support for interoperability and delivery of new concepts in Communications and Information Systems. This requires specialist technical software to ensure digital services can enhance the RAF’s capabilities.

The Squadron consists of Application eXploitation Flight, Capability, Support and Exploit Flight and Rapid Application Integration and Development Flight.

4 RAF Police (Typhoon) Squadron
The Squadron protects the RAF's Typhoons whilst operating from RAF Lossiemouth and RAF Coningsby, and when deployed overseas.

Providing advanced fast-jet flying training.

3 Tactical Police Squadron

3 (Tactical) Police Squadron falls under the Specialist Police Wing.  They provide reservist support to operations, undertaking the start to finish process of recruitment, training, mobilisation and support of reserve personnel.

5001 Squadron

5001 Squadron falls under 42 Expeditionary Support Wing of the Support Force.  The Squadron enables ground engineering functions to support deployed Air Operations, by providing temporary working environments such as hangars for RAF fast jets and rotary aircraft, or portable aircraft arrestor gear and environmental conditioning.

5001 Squadron also lead Trade Group 5 Spearhead capability for contingent operations; a highly responsive airfield support engineering capability across all three Services within the UK and overseas.

591 Signals Unit

591 Signals Unit falls under Operational Information Services Wing.  They formed in June 1952 and have continued to support operations and cyber security by identifying and mitigating any RAF cyber vulnerabilities.  They form the Security Operations Centre element of the Air.

93 (Expeditionary Armaments) Squadron

93 (Expeditionary Armaments) Squadron falls under 42 Expeditionary Support Wing of the Support Force.  It provides Specialist Expeditionary Armament support to deployed Air Operations and performs a peacetime role in support of RAF Marham and RAF Wittering

The Squadron also supports the Defence Exercise Programme and Air Warfare Centre trials; with high readiness to provide weapon stockpile and deployed explosives, deliver specialist air-launched munitions, and conduct recces.

71 (Inspection & Repair) Squadron

71 Inspection & Repair Squadron falls under 42 Expeditionary Support Wing of the Support Force.  The Squadron aims to deliver engineering manufacture and design capabilities in deployed locations, to repair damaged structures on fixed-wing military aircraft.  

The aircraft mechanical technicians are skilled in precision metalwork and the use of composite materials like carbon fibre; they must often work to provide repair solutions in circumstances where conventional fixes may not be effective.

5 Information Services Squadron

5 Information Services Squadron falls under Operational Information Services Wing.  They provide constant network operations support, by preparing, deploying, sustaining, assuring and recovering Communication and Information Systems.  They work from the Network Operations Centre, as well as in deployed environments. 

II Squadron RAF Regiment

II Squadron RAF Regiment was originally formed in 1922 as an armoured car company. Based at RAF Brize Norton, the Squadron is parachute trained. The Squadron is composed of 175 personnel arranged into four flights and supporting elements. They have performed some of the first reconnaissance in the Western Desert in 1940 for the British Army.
